Housing & Emergency Services

Housing Assistance & Emergency Services Program
provides shelter for families in emergency situations which include: eviction, burnout or other crisis situations. The staff assists the family in finding permanent housing, working with area landlords, and in locating additional needed resources such as food, clothing, furniture, laundry services, and household items.

Services
DMCOC offers Emergency Shelter for homeless families, Transitional Shelter through 2 agency owned dwellings, Information and Referral, Counseling and Advocacy services. DMCOC offers Rent/Mortgage to help families maintain current housing or assist homeless families in moving to more permanent housing rather than keeping them in shelter until funds can be obtained for first months rent. SERVICES ARE PROVIDED WHEN FUNDING IS AVAILABLE.

Persons applying must be income eligible according to the Community Services Block Grant Guidelines, which are outlined by clicking the link to the left.

DMCOC is also a partner with the HOMEWARD BOUND program, which provides long term supportive services and transitional shelter. Other partners include: the City of Decatur, the Decatur Housing Authority, DOVE (grantee for Homeward Bound), Heritage Behavioral Health Center and the Community Investment Corporation of Decatur.

DMCOC is an active member of the area Homeless Council, and assists in determining on-going community needs, the development of new proposals and the implementation of additional services throughout the community.
