ACL’s recent Nutrition Report shows that having nutritious meals at congregate meal sites decreases healthcare utilization, as well as being placed in a nursing home.

The Nutrition Program also serves as hub for older adults to access nutritious meals and socialization. The meal is a gateway to other wellness services, resources, benefits, information, and assistance.

Congregate meal participants who attended meal sites that have socialization activities report being “very satisfied” with their socialization opportunities (71 percent), compared to congregate meal participants who attend meal sites that don’t have these types of activities (59 percent).
